Agents
How do I use Codex from Claude, ChatGPT, Grok Bot, Muse or another agent?
Use an Offhand task as the shared record, then read that task in Codex in the ChatGPT desktop app. This page covers a Codex task where Offhand is already installed, connected and available. The connection must be allowed to read your list. Offhand does not put Codex inside the other agent.
Read a task in Codex
§1For an existing task on your Offhand list:
- Read that task by its ID with
list_todos, usingtaskfor its ID andstatus: "all". - Read the returned task’s title, status and the agent’s last line.
The task’s agentNote is the last thing an agent said about it. Reading the task does not add work or change its status.
Last tested 23 October 2026: an existing connected Offhand plugin in this desktop Codex task read a named task and returned its title, status and agent note. This was a read test; installation, sign-in and plugin selection were not tested.
Setup and other Codex surfaces
§2Need to connect Offhand first? OpenAI describes supported plugin setup in Plugins in ChatGPT. Its MCP documentation covers servers configured on a Codex host for the desktop app, CLI and IDE extension. Those setup flows were not run for this page.
The working plugin connection used here did not need an additional CLI connection. This test does not establish that every surface inherits every plugin authorization.
For what goes in the shared task and how an agent reports back, read the hand-off guide. For work split inside a session, see Claude Code agent teams and Codex subagents.
