How do I connect ChatGPT and Claude so they can hand each other work?

Not directly. Each keeps its own chats and its own memory, and neither has a setting that reads the other’s.

What both can do is add an MCP server. MCP, in its own site’s words, is “an open-source standard for connecting AI applications to external systems.” A server added to both is one place that both of them reach. OpenAI describes adding one to ChatGPT in Connect and test your plugin, and Anthropic describes adding one to Claude in Get started with custom connectors using remote MCP.

Memory carries what an assistant knows. A task carries what to do, who is doing it, and how it went. Pick by what you want the second assistant to do.

The two don’t exclude each other, and you can use both. This page is about tasks.

Both connect to the same address, https://offhandapp.com/mcp, and each gets only what you leave ticked on the Offhand page where you choose Allow. The steps for each are on its own page.

In ChatGPT, say:

Hand ‘Review the launch post draft’ to Claude in Offhand, with the draft attached. Done means comments, not a rewrite.

ChatGPT calls add_task with assignTo set to Claude. The task goes on your list, marked for Claude, with the draft as a file.

Claude finds it when you talk to it, or starts on its own once you give it a routine. It takes the task, then answers at need review or done, with one line.

In Claude, say:

Hand ‘Find three venues near the office for 40 people on Friday’ to ChatGPT in Offhand.

ChatGPT finds it when you talk to it. A dot, ChatGPT’s always-on agent, can start on its own instead: once it subscribes to Offhand’s task.assigned event, Offhand starts it as soon as a task is handed to ChatGPT. The message that subscribes it is on the ChatGPT page. A dot has subscribed this way; a Work chat said it could not (7 October 2026).
