On device

Nothing leaves the phone on its own.

No account. No sign-in. No analytics, no third-party SDKs, no advertising. Offhand makes no network request of its own. Speech recognition, the model, your recordings, your transcripts and your list all stay on this device. The app works with the network off.

Two things can carry data off the phone, and both are switches you turn on: both are off by default, and both hand data to Apple’s own apps rather than to us. They are in §2.

What stays on the phone

01The listening. Transcription is by SpeechAnalyzer, on device. There is no upload, no queue, and no waiting on a network.
02The reading. Task extraction is by Foundation Models, on device: the model that decides “tomorrow at nine” is a task on tomorrow at 9:00 runs on the phone in your hand.
03The recordings and the words. Every capture keeps its transcript and its recording, on this iPhone. Audio is kept until you delete it; if you prefer, set it to be deleted after a week, 30 days or a year, in Settings. The transcript is kept either way.
04Deleting is final. Deleting an entry removes the note and its recording from this iPhone, and that cannot be undone. Deleting the app removes everything at once. There is no account to close and no copy anywhere else, which also means we cannot recover anything for you.

The two switches

Show in Calendar puts scheduled task titles into an “Offhand” calendar in the Calendar app. Offhand still makes no network request, but if your iPhone syncs calendars to iCloud, those titles go where your calendar already goes. What Calendar does next is your own setting.

iCloud Sync mirrors your list into your own private iCloud database: your Apple account, nobody else’s servers, no third party. Recordings have a second switch of their own, also off by default. Both switches are part of Pro, the optional subscription; if Pro ends, syncing stops and nothing is deleted. We do not run a server that could receive your data.

Handing text to Shortcuts or to another app happens only when you do it. Nothing is sent anywhere on its own, and nothing is copied without you.

Check it yourself

Turn on Airplane Mode and use the app. Speak a note, get the tasks, search your words, play a recording back. Network is never required for any feature, so nothing changes.

Or put the phone behind a proxy you control and watch what Offhand sends. With both switches off, the answer is nothing, and it takes about a minute to see.
